The
Land of the Three - Legged Crow (private collection)
2001, 40" by 40", oil, gold leaf on
canvas
Imagine a place where geographies mix-Himalayan
Mount Kailash, and a Rajasthani desert camel-as easily as ingredients
in a tossed salad.
Imagine a place where supposedly mythological animals
such as snow lions land before you, or that there, in the center
of your vision, is suddenly a three-legged crow, a creature who
has become more grounded than most of its counterparts.
In this land, an ancient, wisdom-guarding naga
(water spirit) considerately transforms into a young girl, so that
you can see her.
Perhaps all the magic and miracles of this land
depend upon your believing in them; but then, even more astonishing:
perhaps, after you do believe, you see.
